Dear friends,

As many of you know, Dylan, our 11-year-old son has a terminal disease called Cystic Fibrosis (CF). CF is the number one inherited terminal disease in the U.S. today. It currently affects about 30,000 children and young adults. With CF the body produces thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs, causing those affected with coughing, wheezing and serious lung infections. The mucus also blocks the flow of pancreatic enzymes to the intestines, which impedes digestion and results in poor weight gain. Because of this, Dylan, and all those affected, takes enzymes with each meal and snack to help the absorption of their food. They also require several other medicines, vitamins, breathing treatments and therapies as well as routine Doctor visits and hospital stays. Eventually, without a cure, Dylan’s lungs will scar and will cease to function.

Currently, there is NO cure for CF; therefore it is terminal in ALL cases! Progress has been made in the treatment to slow its affects. If Dylan had been born in 1950 it is unlikely that he would have lived long enough to attend elementary school. About 50% of the children born with CF today will live to age 36.

Because of our commitment to our son and our love of outdoor sports, we have founded an exciting and fun event to raise funds for research to find a cure for CF. We are currently planning our 8th annual “Scent-Lok’s Camouflage Ball. The Camouflage Ball will be held on August 16th at the Devos Place located at 303 Monroe Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI

Due to the outpouring of generosity from many of you over the last several years, this event has been a huge success!
